In our on-going tribute to the Malaysian artisans at Suria Artisan Batik, meet the Stardust Silk top. We crafted this top from excess fabric from our studio so no additional fabric or dyes were used to make it- upcycling at its finest!Inspired by a blanket of stars in the tropical night sky, this silk fabric was printed four meters at a time by hand. Cut in our flowing and generous square silhouette, the stardust motif is printed down the front and the back.
Hand printed by Abdul Rahman and his family in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Pok Mud, as he is affectionately known, has been block printing since he was 18 and we were fortunate enough to watch him work at the Craft Center in Kuala Lumpur where he teaches his art to others. His wife, Azizah expertly dyed the fabric and it was finished by their son, Azizi.
