In 2015, we started our business on the pledge that we would put people, planet and purpose first. Look for these icons on each product page to see how we are doing.
Our Sustainability Commitment
Zero water means exactly that. We use no water in the production of these garments. We find beautiful overcut fabrics from the world’s finest mills and turn these limited edition beauties into limited edition pieces for ocean+main. Water was certainly used when the fabrics were originally made, but zero water is used when we transform these fabrics into garments for ocean+main.
When we upcycle fabric - meaning we rescue overcut fabrics from heading to a landfill - we add no additional dyes to our fragile eco-system. Like water, dyes were most likely used when the fabric was originally made, but these garments add no additional toxins to the environment.
We proudly produce 100% of our garments in Los Angeles, California. That means we pay a living wage and provide our team with a clean, healthy work environment and a healthy work/life balance.
This symbol means the fabric for this garment was sourced from a factory that recycles 100% of its water. Like magic, they treat, purify and recycle their water EVERY SINGLE DAY. This ensures no water is wasted and no toxins or dyes enter the delicate water table or corrupt the local water supply.
Being a plastic-free company has been a pillar of ocean+main since we started. We use no single use plastic, no plastic hangers, and no plastic when shipping from our site.
We support artisans around the world who create fabrics using traditional methods in harmony with the nature around them. We love to bring these fabrics home to LA to make our garments.
Sometimes we find fabrics that could use a little rinse. Like a dip in the ocean, a quick rinse helps uncover the true beauty of these fabrics (and sometimes makes them look a bit cooler). When we say minimal water, we really mean it. No industrial machines, no rinse cycles, it’s just us, and a bucket of water. Think of it as a sponge bath for your caftan so it arrives to you in perfect condition.
Another pillar of ocean+main is full transparency. As our company has grown, some of our garments are produced in a more conventional way. These garments are made using fabrics that are conventionally grown and in some cases dyed in Los Angeles following the strict environmental water-waste guidelines of local governments. These items are a small percentage of our offering and this symbol will let you know when an item doesn't meet our completely sustainable criteria.
