Malaysia Collection: Ikat Print Long Silk Caftan - Only 12 Made
Hand blocked four meters at a time by hand, the fabric for this beautiful caftan was printed and finished by Abdul Rahman and his family in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ikat designs are known for their repetitive, geometric patterns and the symmetry to place the block perfectly each time is truly a work of art. Pok Mud, as he is affectionately known, has been block printing since he was 18 and we were fortunate enough to watch him work at the Craft Center in Kuala Lumpur where he teaches his art to others. His wife, Azizah expertly dyed the fabric and it was finished by their son, Azizi. (Watch the video below to see Pok Mud and his family at work.) Made in our classic caftan silhouette, it comes with a removable belt that can be worn 4 ways: belted above the waist empire-style, tied at the natural waist, looped through the top and bottom loops and tied in the back for a clean line, or with no belt at all. Only 12 made.
